Join with us every Thursday in Lent, 7pm UK time, for our Lent Lecture Series – The Things That Make For Peace. Find out what is on each week here. Sign up is required to access the Zoom link.

Peace, Violence and the Ukraine Conflict

Steve is Policy Adviser to the Joint Public Issues Team, and Co-Chair of Christian Approaches to Defence and Disarmament (CCADD). His background is in international relief and development having worked for 10 years on programmes in conflict and post-conflict settings in Africa and Asia. He is committed to exploring Christian responses to conflict and injustice, with interest in the particular areas of non-proliferation, ethical investment and climate change.

Steve will bring his academic background in international relations into conversation with some of the theological issues raised by the Ukraine crisis. He writes: “The questions that Ukraine throws up for me are around the fragility of international norms when they are violated by great powers, the use of sanctions as a non-violent means of coercion, calculated ambiguity in military threat and deterrence concepts and the implications for integrity and trust, the brokenness of relationships that can too often be reflected in the institutional relations of the worldwide church.”
